Cubs and WGN-TV signs contract for remaining forty-five telecasts

Chicago Cubs, apparently, could not ditch WGN-Channel 9 easily.

According to reports, the network and the MLS team appear all set to declare a contract to telecast forty-five matches per season trill the year 2019. The reported contract would broaden the partnership that has been running since the year 1948.

It was just previous month that Lewis Lazare of Chicago Business Journal reported on the new Cubs' contract to telecast twenty-five matches on WLS-Channel 7, which is owned by ABC.

A renowned American, a public figure Jackie Robinson’s leadership attributes inspire Major League Baseball to honor him by paying respect on 15th April 2014. The celebration occurs annually. Jackie Robinson played his first game for Brooklyn Dodgers as a baseman. It was played in Ebbets Field in 1947. Since his jersey number was 42 all players and personnel’s that will take part in the ceremony wore the number 42.

Cubs add rotation

A leading new channel reported that the Cubs have sealed a one year deal with free agent pitcher Jason Hammel for US$ 6 million, but his physical exam is still pending. According to reports, the Cubs have also made a deal with free agent pitcher James McDonald to Minor League which includes an invite to a Spring Training. However, the Cubs have not yet confirmed the reports.

Chris Young signs for New York Mets

Chris Young believes that he is not a New York type of person. Therefore, when the New York Mets approached his agent just after the beginning of free agent, the thirty year old outfielder was very eager to finalize a contract rather than test the transfer market.

The match is almost over for Hammond FOP softball ground

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 51’s softball field is down to its final out. Following a weekend farewell match fixture, the city would repossess land it once chartered to FOP that now is engrossed by most of left field. After that, a contractor would work on an almost US$ 10 million athletics complex in Dowling Park which would offer Purdue Calumet squads room to play.


Henderson has been named unanimously by the baseball coaches to the dream team. Henderson found out Saturday night, when he was informed he was named to the Division 1 all-state team by the state baseball coaches association.

His coach, Jim Murray, said Monday night Henderson was named to the Dream Team as well.

J.P. Maracani of Pinckney also was named to the first team, and in both cases their pictures will be put up on the walls of their respective high schools.

"We're getting a picture up there from baseball," Pinckney coach Shane Davis said. "I'm excited."


Baseball is set to become the NCAA regional host from this year onwards.The announcement of hosting a regional signals the 55th time the Texas Longhorns will play in any variation of the NCAA Division I baseball tournament, the most among any Division I school.

This marks the 25th time UFCU Disch-Falk Field will host an NCAA Regional. The Longhorns also served as host in 2007, but the games were played at The Dell Diamond in nearby Round Rock. Texas has served as sole host of an NCAA regional on 36 occasions prior to this season.


The Middlesex ASA Umpires Association is seeking prospective softball umpires for high school and recreational games.

The Middlesex County Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking teams for its Men’s Softball League on Sunday afternoons that will begin play in late March. Games will be played at Thomas Edison Park in Edison or at William Warren Park in Woodbridge. The first set of double-header games starts at noon.
